A short public service announcement created for the University of Rochester's cable TV station.
Can a world-class athlete get enough protein from a vegetarian diet to compete? I've found that a person does not need protein from meat to be a successful athlete. In fact, my best year of track competition was the first year I ate a vegan diet. Moreover, by continuing to eat a vegan diet, my weight is under control, I like the way I look, (I know that sounds vain, but all of us want to like the way we look) I enjoy eating more, and I feel great. — Olympian Carl Lewis, in his introduction to Very Vegetarian
Lots of thoughtful, compassionate people have recognized the importance of a vegetarian diet. Did you know that nine-time Olympic gold medal winner Carl Lewis made the switch? How about Alicia Silverstone? Susan B. Anthony went vegetarian too, as did Albert Einstein. Heck, even Anthony Hopkins (a.k.a. Hannibal Lecter) went vegetarian... ;-)
How about you? For your health, the earth, and the animals: try vegetarian!
In order of appearance: Rebekka Puderbaugh, Adam Hayes, Abigail Aresty, Erin Subramanian, Hoss Firooznia, Abigail Wickes, Megan Walter.
